About Thembelihle Homebased Care

A community centre in Mangweni, Kwalugedlane that gives orphans and vulnerable children a meal, a safe place and hope.

Our story

Who we are

Thembelihle Homebased Care is a community centre that feeds, protects and supports orphans, vulnerable children and people living with disabilities. We work so that every child can enjoy the same rights as any other child: safety, food, education and care.

The centre was founded on 16 March 2004 by Winile Khumalo, who saw children in her community going to school hungry and coming home to empty houses. What began with a pot of food and a safe place to sit became a daily lifeline for many children.

Why we need your support

Thembelihle Homebased Care currently relies on the Social Development support office for the centre's needs. This support is not enough to keep the centre running, because the number of children keeps growing. Every child is welcome, even when food is short, and we always find a way to make room with the little we have.

Your donation, big or small, helps us keep our kitchen open.
